We provide vital funding to support seafarers in need.

Story

Once again, a team from MOL will travel to the Lake District to take part in the 24 Peaks Challenge  during the weekend of 18/19th July 2009.   The aim of the challenge is to walk 24 Peaks, all over 2,400feet (or the equivalent of climbing half the ascent of Mount Everest ! ) in just 24 hours.  The trek will cover some of the country’s most famous mountains, such as Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, and is one of the most demanding yet rewarding events ever organised as a charity challenge.

Our pledge is to raise a minimum sponsorship of £5,000 in aid of Seafarers UK, so all donations are gratefully received on behalf of this very deserving charity.  Please sponsor us now and don’t forget to leave us a witty comment of your choice.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us – Seafarers UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

About Seafarers UK

Seafarers UK, (previously known as King George’s Fund for Sailors), has been helping seafarers since 1917.  It is an umbrella organisation that awards grants to other maritime charities.  The term ‘seafarers’ covers someone who is, or once was, in the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy or fishing fleets.  Grants are also given to charities that help seafarers’ families, including widows and children.

When they eventually have to, it can be very difficult for a sailor to adapt to retirement, unemployment or invalidity, and many never do. It is hard to find new work on the shore if you've been a sailor all your life and it can be very hard to adapt to the different routine and culture of normal employment. Far too many old sailors end up homeless, depressed, addicted or unemployed.   They need our support - Seafarers UK has given over £26 million in grants during the last ten years to help sailors and their families – please, please  help us to continue this work.

WITH HEARTFELT THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT !
