Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Please help us raise money and awareness for a charity that's important to us, The Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group.

The reason this charity is so important to us is because Natalie’s brother Robbie has been diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy.  He currently has a fairly mild form of the disease and leads a mostly ‘normal’ life.  But this is a progressive disease and we don’t know how it will affect him in years to come.  That’s why we want to raise money for MDSG as they will be there to support Robbie and other Myotonic Dystrophy sufferers throughout their lives.  They also put money into DNA research so hopefully one day Myotonic Dystrophy sufferer’s children will not inherit the genetic disease.

We’re aware that you may not know what Myotonic Dystrophy is so here are a few facts;

Myotonic dystrophy is a chronic, slowly progressing, highly variable inherited multisystemic disease. It is characterised by wasting of the muscles (muscular dystrophy), cataracts, heart conduction defects, endocrine changes, and myotonia. Myotonic dystrophy can occur in patients of any age.

Myotonic dystrophy is the most common form of muscular dystrophy affecting adults.  It is a genetic condition which is inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern and thus will be passed along to 50% of a carrier's offspring, on average.
