FRIDAY 9TH - THURSDAY 15TH SEPT 2011
Join Zopa in our quest to need less!
How to get involved:
1. Work out how much you would spend on consumption in an average week using our NEEDLESS Calculator. We're classing consumption as food, drink and entertainment (so exclude rent, house bills, travel to work, etc). Examples of things to tot up would be your grocery shopping, meals out and those cheeky pints down the pub.
2. Cut your budget to £35 and...
3. Donate the difference on this page!
The whole Zopa team are getting involved and we'll be updating you on the blog (blog.zopa.com) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/zopa) on our progress and any great recipes/tips we find to make it through the week!
Background:
The idea behind NEED:LESS is that we train ourselves for one week to literally need less, and give the money we save to those who need more.
In the Western world the majority of us spend more money on a daily basis than we need to survive. Worse than that, a lot of us literally waste money on things we don't need or could go without, while in other parts of the world some have so little money they can't even cover the basics needed to survive. It's imbalance on an unimaginable scale.
The current drought in East Africa is the worst in 60 years and has left an estimated 10 million people short of food. The UN says that in the last few months, tens of thousands of Somalis have died of causes related to malnutrition. Most of them were children.
The Cause:
We've chose the DEC as our nominated charity as they're great at getting funds to the right place quickly and efficiently.
