Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

As many of you know I am doing several sporting events this year to raise money for this worthwhile charity. My wife Chris died  6 years ago from Carcinoid cancer I believe a cure is not far away with new research in the UK and USA.It is well named the silent cancer as it is often not till late in the disease that the cancer shows itself as it proved for Chris on a tandem ride in 2002.It is fitting therefore that one of my events that I shall be doing is cycling from Lands End to John of Groats in June with 3 of my closest friends Terry Radmore Chris Zoeller and Mike Wood.We shall be singing in all the pubs to raise money as we go ...i think they will pay us toleave .But before then I will be walking and climbing to the top of Island peak in the Himalayas with Timothy and Anthony my two sons and friends to 6100 metres or 21000 feet in old money. We have all been on a steep learning curve learning how to use ice axes and crampons but now are all raring to go. Latest news ....successful climbing of Island peak ....except last 80 meters for me as moving very slowly and absoultely exhausted ...Timothy and Anthony went on to summit with the two Bradfords. A truly epic adventure one that i shall remember all my life in particular sharing it with great friends and of course my two sons....20/05/09

update 17/7/09   just giving to not give me enough space to finish the diary so i will have to keep this brief.I have now completed 3  of the 4 challenges with The finishing of the West Highland Way with my brother and cousin kit and i pictures can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/moorhayes and indeed LEJOG ....the last challenge starts tommorrow with the rowing up the Thames lets hope we dont sink !!!!

Challenge 4 has now been completed rowing up the thames 100 miles last done 34 years ago as final year medical students We finished in Oxford on saturday after many laughs and quite a few sore bottoms and blisterd hands the pics can be seen on the link above.Nearly all the rowers said they wanted to do it again next year ....but that will be another story.

Update...a lot has happened since i did all these challenges, i have got the challenge bug and have now been up Kilimanjaro with a young boy as part of Wilderness therapy,he was a troubled young man of 15 and made it to the top , along with myself and other helpers. This should put him on the way to a successful life i hope.

I have decided to swim the channel now in 2012 with a relay with 5 other people, in preparation I am swimming the Hellespont this year from Asia to Turkey,http://www.swimhellespont.com/  the journey that Leander made to see his lover Hero every night . I will swim 4.5km in pleasant 28 degree water whilst the super tankers are kept at bay for the 90 minutes it takes to go across, i hope the channel will be as warm in September 2012, only speedo's allowed. Last year i also entered the rally from Plymouth to Dakar where i met my fiancee Ceri . The motto , 'he who dares wins' has never been more apposite. All this could not be possible without my wonderful family Tim ,Anthony ,Eve and Tessa  who have seen me through thick and thin. !!!
