Story

This Spring 17 brave souls will be taking on the might of the Nepalese Himalaya on a 3 week adventure in which they will attempt to reach the summits of Kalla Patthar (5,550m) and Gokyo Ri (5,360m), and well as reach Everest Base Camp (5,364m) high up in the Nepalese Himalaya. This challenge will involve 16 days of seriously tough high altitude trekking, 9 above 4,000 meters were the air is thin and the breathing pattern of every small step matches that of a sprint at sea level.

In doing this they will be enjoying the kind hospitality of the Nepalese people and enjoying the beauty of Nepal’s environment and culture. In the Nepal living standards are amongst some of the poorest in the world:

- Nepal is the poorest country in Asia
- 30% of the 27 million population live below the national poverty line
- More than 50,000 children die in Nepal each year, with malnutrition as the underlying cause for more than 60 per cent of these deaths
- Half of the children in Nepal are underweight
- Two-thirds of Nepalis are still without access to toilets
- Literacy is as low as 29% among some ethnic groups

Therefore the team would like to dedicate their challenge to raising awareness and funds for the charity ‘Global Action Nepal’ www.gannepal.org Global Action Nepal's chief focus is on educational and social improvement throughout Nepal. Please support the expedition by making a donation through this JustGiving site to Global Action Nepal and make a real difference through this small charity to the lives of those less fortune than us. The support you show us will mean so much to the team when times get tough, legs get heavy and our mental and physical strength are running on empty…

PLEASE NOTE. EVERY PENNY YOU DONATE GOES DIRECTLY TO GAN AND NOT TOWARDS THE COST OF THIS EXPEDITION.

Our Warmest Thanks.
