We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

2007 can be remembered for many things. The spice girl’s reunion, the start of the credit crunch, Gordon Brown and England failing to qualify for the European championships..............................

However, for Sam and I 2007 will be a year we can never forget. In June 2007 Sam we found out that Sam was pregnant much to our delight.......Our Happiness and plans were short lived when things did not really go to plan and a few complications led us to seek medical advice. After a few tests and just as Sam was 11 weeks gone in late July Sam was diagnosed with Clear Cell Carcinoma Cancer and our worlds were turned upside down and changed forever.

As shock set in and past we were left with many daunting decision and a very turbulent future ahead. With the help of the Oncology staff at Guys & St Thomas's hospital we were guided through some tough times and many of those emotional and physically painful to us and all around us. As a consequence we lost our baby and Sam started a very traumatic few months of daily Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy to cure her cancer.

At this point I would like to thank all our friends, family that pulled together giving us the strength and guidance to hit this head on and with some treatment that you would not wish upon you worse enemy and after a long and emotional few months on Jan 30th Sam was giving her 1st all clear.

We continue to receive amazing support and advice from everyone involved in Sam's treatment from Guys & St Thomas's. Which I am very sure without them we would not be in the position we are today. The support and dedication of every nurse, specialist and consultant has been amazing.

We do look at ourselves and think we are the lucky ones, Daily we met people that would not be given the chances we had and are not even here today. However, we lost our only baby, a little dobbo that without we may never had found out about his mum’s illness until it was too late and with that life can be hard to swallow.

Both Sam and I are not looking for sympathy or shoulders to lean on as with the strength between us we have passed through what I know will be the worst 6 months of our lives. Things that at 26, should not even be a thought let alone a reality but what we do ask is your support and help in helping others. Without the research, hard work and dedication of Oncology professionals I would have lost everything dear to me and I cannot thank them enough. This is why I have decided to run the London Marathon on 13th April 2008. This time every step I make means something and will drive me to go that bit faster to reach my goal of under 4 hrs.
I am hoping my pain will be others gain and with your generous support I can reach my goal of £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.

So thank you in advance for your support and every donation however little will help. Either way I would love to see you on Sunday 13th April to help cheer me and the thousands of other marathon runners on.
