Story
My chosen charity is Fisher House based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Fisher House is a home away from home for military patients and their
families. It is within walking distance of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital,
where the UK's military patients are treated. It is run solely on charitable donations.
When Ben was serving in Afghan in Oct 2013 he was unfortunately caught up in a suicide car bomb attempt. Due to his injuires he was flown back to the QE Hospital where he received first class treatment and support not only from the hospital but from Fisher House. Fortunately for Ben he has made a full recovery. As a family we also received support from Fisher House which was invaluable. Bens wife, Grace, was able to stay at Fisher House along with 2 other famillies who's sons were also injured in the attack while they were being treated. They ensured that there was always someone around to answer questions and help with any concerns that we had. It was the little things they did that made all the difference when our emotions were in turmoil.
It was then that I decided I wanted to do something to help Fisher House as I felt so humble. I have watched the London Marathon many times and decided that this was going to be my biggest ever personal challenge as I had never ran before. I did my first ever run in May 2014, 2 miles, and it nearly killed me. With lots of encouragement from family and friends and lots of perseverance and training, despite injuires, I completed my first 1/2 marathon in September and have 2 more booked in before April. If you can please help me reach my target of £2,000. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Nicky
