My story

******** I have reached my target!! ******

On the 11th June I won 'Britian's most inspiring fundraiser', and the prize was £20,000, therefore I've smashed my target for The Silver Lining Appeal. Thank you to everyone who helped me reach it. I've now set up another Justgiving page at

www.justgiving.com/nicolesfund

where you can donate to my new £50,000 target for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Thank you.

Thank you for visiting my Justgiving page.

I have set this up to raise money for The Silver Lining Appeal, which is a charity at King’s College Hospital in London. I am an ambassador for the appeal, and I’m trying to raise £30,000 for them to equip a neuro-rehabilatation room which will help children recovering from the severest of brain and spinal injuries and operations. Most of you will know I’ve been a patient at King’s since I was eleven, and had my first operation there to remove a tumour from the top of my spine. I then spent three months there after my brain haemorrhage in 2002. Here is a poem I’ve written to explain a bit more...

My name is Nicole and I’m nineteen years old,
And this is my story which needs to be told...

I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of eleven,
I didn’t understand what was happening back then.

I received excellent care on Lion Ward at King’s,
The doctors and nurses made me forget the bad things.

Then I had a brain haemorrhage when I was thirteen,
Something that none of us could have forseen.

I was back at King’s College Hospital and needing their care,
No-one really knew what was wrong or why I was there.

Things just kept going from bad to worse,
But we could always rely on the help of a nurse.

I then had a stroke, several fits and went blind,
The equipment I needed was always hard to find.

So I’d now like to tell you about my fundraising target,
Which by the end of the year I’d like to have hit.

I’m raising £30,000 for The Silver Lining Appeal,
To help children recover after they have been ill.

I’m raising this money to give something back,
For the hospital to buy equipment it desperately lacks.

To give children the opportunity that I never had,
And give hope to a situation that only seems bad.

To buy two electric beds and a hoist in the ceiling,
Which lifts kids to the bathroom while they are still healing.

Plus multi-sensory equipment and a special chair,
Because these poorly kids need the utmost of care.

The room will be unique in the NHS,
And offer the children nothing but the best.

It will be called ‘Nicole’s suite’ after me,
And if I get my way it will be as pink as can be!

So I’m asking you kindly to please dig deep,
Into those pockets that are so near to reach.

Please give what you can to this brilliant cause,
And help children who need it that one day could be yours.

My next fundraising event is a 100ft abseil on 6th July down the side of King’s College Hospital. I’m obviously mad as people keep telling me, but, hey, it’s all in the name of charity! Plus my friend, Dan, is doing the abseil with me so it should be fun!

Please, if you are able to, donate on-line on my lovely Justgiving page, or send a cheque payable to: Paediatric Neurorehab, and send it to
