Story
We are a group of 6 mad people from Norfolk who are attempting to swim the channel in August 2010
we are that mad that not only are we going to attempt to swim from Dover to Calais we are going to attempt to swim back to England as well! There are 5 family members and one very brave lady who has only recently learnt to swim!
We are swimming it as a relay so expect to swim about 9 miles each and we expect it to take us about 30 hours. The English Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world ( so why anyone would want to swim through it is highly questionable!) .We have a pilot boat that will guide us through safelywhich is essentail as we will be swimming through the night. If anyone watched Robson Greens Tv programe "Wild about swimming" you will have seen the training sessions in Dover harbour - the lady who runs them is the mother of the pilot of our support boat.
We are now training hard - In the later part of 2009 we were mixing lake , sea and pool swims . It is now 8c in the sea and we have been back in training in the sea since mid March - a short break over the winter in the comfort of a warm swimming pool and now it is seriuosly time to get used to the cold. we expect the sea temperature to be around 15c when we do the attempt and we are not allowed to wear wetsuits.
We really want to raise loads of money for 3 charities - RNLI lifeguards ,Big C Cancer charityand MacMillan. Just giving does not allow you to support 3 charities on the same page so we have set up another page for Big C and Macmillan .
Please support us - just choose which charity you would prefer to donate to and off you go!
We are setting up a website so that you can follow the highs and lows of our training and hopefully will have web cams so you can follow the attempt its self.
