Story
This is probably the last event I will be doing for the foreseeable future and I realise I have asked many of you, cap in hand, over the last 18 months to sponsor me for 2 marathons and Movember. But this is my biggest challenge to date and I expect I won't complete a bigger one. On the 4th September I am taking part in The Vitruvian, a half-ironman distance event. It consists of 1.9km swim, 85km cycle and a half marathon to finish. I thought I could meander my way around only to find out this week that I have to complete it in 8 hours or they pick you up and force you to quit. So now the pressure is really on.
This will rate alongside my top competitive achievements such as winning the JWIT golf day, scoring my first ever goal, winning a bag of chips for Man of The Match in my first rugby season and beating High Tower in a boat race in Budapest circa 2003. Impressive company I am sure you agree.
It has actually been a tough schedule doing the training. Most fatlads approaching this type of event would end up losing weight, but I have managed to avoid that by including periods of substantial under-training or binge eating/drinking sessions to keep me at my fighting weight.
I am asking for donations to go towards St Barnabas house, a hospice that cared superbly for my late Grandfather earlier this year and help a great many families in the Worthing area. It is a very worthy cause, please give generously. http://www.stbarnabas-hospice.org.uk/default.asp?id=2
