Story
We are 4 school pals, Steve (Big), Jem, (Little), Simon (Fat) and Nigel (Skinny), collectively known as the Ol' Gits. We are celebrating our 50th birthdays in 2009. Our senses of humour are mostly intact (some would disagree), and we are willing to do almost anything to bunk off from real life (to re-live our youth) for as long as we can get away with it. In this case, "anything" is disappearing for 2 weeks in May, dressing in lycra and riding bicycles from Lands End to John O'Groats. (Don't worry boys, it's only 940 miles!)
We are all lucky boys. We have all enjoyed a priviledged life with great family, friends, education and opportunity. We are fortunate enough to be healthy and vaguely solvent, if a little........ frayed around the edges! It's time to do something meaningful to help others and there's a fair chance we might just enjoy ourselves at the same time.
We have chosen Keech's Cottage near Luton to be the beneficiary of our fundraising. This is a childrens hospice providing care for young people who are unlikely to enjoy the full lives we all take for granted. The hospice is operated by a small charity which serves a huge area and funding is limited.
Please watch this space. In the coming weeks we'll be adding info to keep you abreast of our preparation for the big ride which takes place in the latter half of May. Whatever you can do to help these people is significant to these children. The work done by the charity is truly inspirational. Anything, absolutely anything you wish to give will be hugely appreciated.
