Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For those of you that know me best, you will know I've never been the fittest of people (I blame the fact that I'm a Goalkeeper!), so although it is only 10k, the undertaking of this run is a personal achievement in itself, and hopefully the first step to running some longer distance events in the future.
Everyone back home in Ashby will know why I have selected 'The Anaphylaxis Campaign' as my chosen charity to run this event for, but for new friends and colleagues in Manchester, let me just provide a little background.
Around 2 years ago, a close friend from back home in Ashby, Danny Macpherson, tragically passed away after suffering a severe allergic reaction whilst eating an Indian take-away. I went to school with Danny, shared holidays with him, and played football with him for around 15 years! It was a huge and unexpected shock to us all when Danny passed away. A few of the lads have already done some fundraising, and for the past year and a half I have vowed to do something like this for what I see as 'Danny's charity'......so finally I am!
The Anaphylaxis Campaign is the only UK wide charity to exclusively meet the needs of the growing numbers of people at risk from severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) by providing information and support relating to foods and other triggers. I will be running the event with Bally (my brother), a close friend from Uni and 3 colleagues from United Biscuits, who I now work for up in Manchester. We will all have to try and lay off the biscuits over the next few months for sure!!
Not only myself personally, but the charity itself would really appreciate any donations that you all can make. No matter how little, or how great, if everyone 'just gives' something, then there will be a real chance of meeting the target for the charity.
