Outward Bound is an educational charity which inspires young people to fulfill their potential through challenging outdoor experiences, raising self-esteem and preparing them to face the future with confidence.

 

Outward Bound provides an educational experience to disadvantaged young people who would not normally have access to, or be able to afford, an Outward Bound course. The concept is simple – those who can afford to pay for their courses, pay, and those who can’t afford it apply for funding through The Outward Bound Trust.

 

Last year almost half of the 27,000 participants coming through Outward Bound activity centres were considered socially or financially disadvantaged.

 

Outward Bound is the most famous of all adventure brand names with a safety record second to none. For more than 60 years the organisation has influenced the lives of more than a million young people. There are four residential centres in , The Lake District and - the activities on offer range from challenging outdoor skills courses, high ropes, trapeze, abseiling and kayaking to outdoor expeditions and mountaineering.

 

I have the honour and privilege of being one of 30 DHL employees to be selected as a mentor, to support the young people on their journey of personal development.

 

Mentors will act as suitable role models to the young people in everything they do. This is a key function that mentors can provide as a new “adult” in the lives of the participants. Mentors will have a genuine interest in young people and their development.

 

I feel really lucky to have been chosen for this program. It gives me a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference to these young adults lives and to have a little fun while doing it.
