Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I am now back home having completed the marathon in a time of 5 hrs 37mins 51secs.
I'd like to thank MacFarlane Gray Insurance services for their donation and Hewlett Packard for theirs also - they are highly appreciated.
I have well and truly busted my £500 target, and the total is heading towards the £1000 mark.
I'd like to thank everyone who has donated so far, I am very grateful and quite humbled to discover how many people were supporting my efforts with it as well as their generosity in giving their hard-earned to charity - I am honestly touched by it.
I'm keeping this page open for a wee while longer in-case anyone else wishes to donate to Breast Cancer Care.
So far I have visited many of NY's famous landmarks, Statue Of Liberty, Trump Towers, Little China, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Macy's, as well as some of the famous locations like Robert De Niro's offices, Tribeca, Little Italy, China Town, Dumbo, Nolita, East & West Sides and the Financial District. It's a brilliant place and it's inspired me to perhaps do more after this marathon - in what capacity I'm not quite sure of yet! I may upload some pics of NY when I am able to.
As you may or may not know, I won the chance to do the New York City Marathon via a Reebok competition to 'win your sporting wish' (could have been anything!). Not thinking much of it (having only just bought some of their sportswear to help me get into running in the first place, having the tag detailing the competition) filled in my entry and posted it off online. When I got the letter through the post saying I'd won one of the four wishes I very nearly binned it thinking someone was taking the mick!
You may be wondering why I'm doing this charity fund raising thing as well seeing it was a Reebok prize (of sorts!). The event is being organised through an events company and as a package involves a charity so as to guarantee my place on the marathon - I'm not sure I could get a good enough qualifying time to get a place without it! I've chosen Breast Cancer Care due to my mum, as although she never had to use their services, the charity has the nearest meaning to me.
Reebok will be paying for the package of getting me over there, putting me up and for my marathon entry - so all money donated will be going directly to Breast Cancer Care. This charity donation website is the best recommended one by Breast Cancer Care and my colleague has also used it for his fund raising efforts.
The ING New York City Marathon 2009 is on the 1st of November 2009, and I will be going out to stay with my Uncle Tony (cheers Tony!) for a few days before (the 26th of October) to get over jet lag and see some of before I get marathon-legged! As support, my brother Declan is coming with me (also Reebok funded).
Here comes JustGiving's bit - remember to get Gift Aid reclaimed!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
P.S. That is me in the pic!
