Story

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for “the OxJam Great Green Guitar Relay”.

Oxjam is a festival where hundreds of music events are being organised by volunteers around the UK during October 2007 with a target to raise more than £1 million for Oxfam and contribute to the goal of ending poverty.  You can find out more about OxJam and find events that are happening near you by visiting the website;

http://www.oxfam.co.uk/oxjam

Whether you can get to an OxJam event or not, why not make a contribution by sponsoring Jammy the Guitar?  You can donate either a fixed amount or on a “pay-per-player” basis - more is explained below!  Any amount you can give is very welcome.

Just to give you an idea what Oxfam can do with the money we raise;

- £120 can buy more than 50 Oxfam buckets with a tap and a lid to keep water clean
- £240 can provide chickens for 10 families – that means fresh eggs and meat to eat, and a way of earning extra income
- £600 is enough to start up a community grain bank so that people have a reliable and local source of food

So what’s it all about?

Jammy the OxJam green guitar is the baton in “the OxJam Great Green Guitar Relay”.  Jammy will be played at the re-opening of the original Oxfam shop in Broad Street Oxford on September 22, moving on to OxJam launch events in Cardiff and London on October 1, jumping up to Glasgow on October 6 and then travelling around the country to be in London on October 31, returning to Oxford on November 3.

Along the way Jammy will be played by people everyday at OxJam gigs or promotional events (radio stations, open-air events, Oxfam shops, ) as he makes his way around the country.  An OxJam blog will give daily updates with photos and videos from the journey of Jammy the guitar.

Everyone who plays the guitar will be photographed and entered in the logbook and the blog (including some celebrity Oxfam supporters).

At the end of the relay we will count up the total number of people who played – I would guess the number will be somewhere between 100 and 1000!

While a lot of people will prefer make a straightforward donation, you can have a bit of fun by giving a donation on a “pay-per-player” basis.  Make a donation now based on your best guess of the total number who will play the guitar and the amount you want to pay per player.  Include your guess in your message when you make your donation; for example - “I guess 847 people and will pay 2p per player so I have made a fixed donation of £16.94”.

There will be a prize of some exclusive OxJam badges designed by Jarvis Cocker, The Kaiser Chiefs and others for the one who gets closest to the number who play the guitar by November 3!  You can also top up your donation when you know the final number (no refunds I’m afraid!!) – the more people who play the guitar and sign the logbook the more money is raised.  We will leave this page open to receive donations until the end of November

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor Jammy: Oxfam will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please dig deep and sponsor Jammy now!

Many thanks for your support.  Enjoy any local OxJam events you can get to, and look out for Jammy the green guitar!

Thanks to Ma Simpsons Music Box in Stonehaven near Aberdeen for supplying Jammy the Guitar (www.masimpsons.com).
