Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Following an operation for suspected bladder cancer in February 2022, I was subsequently diagnosed with advanced (metastatic) prostate cancer in April 2022. It was decided that further major surgery was not in my best interests and, instead, I would be treated with both chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
In October 2023 I was told that there had been no discernible further growth of the cancer. This was very good news. The best that could be expected.
Understandably, I was warned that the cancer would want to fight back. So, with the aim of reducing the rate of spread, I am continuing with hormone treatment - Androgen Depletion Therapy (ADT) implants - and my PSA level will be actively monitored every three months.
My oncologist said that I should carry on running as this will help maintain bone strength. More good news!
This is why I am planning to run the London Marathon in April 2024 to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Just in case I don't make it to the start line or fail to finish, my back-up plan is to run in the Edinburgh Marathon in May 2024.
