We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

It costs £34,600 to raise and train a guide dog. Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

We started our journey with Guide Dogs in July 2022 when our first puppy, Quincey, joined us. He went off to "big school" in April 2023 and our second puppy, Kira, joined us in July 2023. Working with the charity and puppy raising have been life changing experiences for us and we hope that the dogs we are looking after go on to be life changers for people with sight loss. Quincy has now qualified and is working in London. Kira is now 9 months old and a proper character!

Over the course of the time that Kira is with us - she is my little motivator!), I am going to run 215 race miles (equivalent to 346 km) to raise funds for Guide Dogs. I will be taking part in a number of different events, ranging from park runs, local 10km runs, half marathons and finally the London Marathon in April.

Follow my progress here and please sponsor me to help change the lives of those living with sight loss.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
