Story
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.
Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
Today it costs the Guide Dog Association £77,000 just to train a guide dog and excludes the additional money they spend during its working career.
A small group of adults from the Galtres Gym in Easingwold, Nigel, Greg, Sam and Al, along with two teenagers Millie and Ernie, (undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh award) are going to undertake a 5km Park run at the Millfield Park in Easingwold in 35 minutes. If you are happy to offer any of us a bonus to try and do it quicker then we will be happy to accept the challenge.
On the day we will be supported by volunteers from the York Guide Dog Association and Millfield Park run.
It is hoped, subject to weather, to have a small stall and a guest appearance by several guide dogs.
