Story
40 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was read the riot act about controlling the condition because, and I quote, "I could lose my sight if I didn't." That thought frightened me more than I can say. While it may have been an exaggerated threat, it's true that uncontrolled diabetes can lead to sight loss.
As I learned more about what Guide Dogs do for people with sight loss, I was deeply moved to become a supporter of this incredible charity. To quote Guide Dogs, "almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives." Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.
Guide Dogs works tirelessly for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life; a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. They strive for a world with enough support to ensure that the challenges of sight loss are no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
In celebration of this cause and to raise awareness, I am taking on a personal challenge by having my head shaved on August 24th, 2025. My target is to raise £1,000 for Guide Dogs. Your support can help change lives and bring hope to those who need it most. Together, we can make a difference!
