Story
My Dad and I are taking on the challenge of running the Bristol 10k. This will be the furthest distance Dad or I have ever run and will be a huge challenge!! We are doing this run in memory of my older brother Calum who sadly died following his 6th open heart surgery in July 2025.
The Grand Appeal is a charity very close to our family’s heart. The Grand Appeal funds life saving hospital equipment, accommodation for families and support for children and their families receiving care at the Bristol Children’s hospital. Calum was born with a heart condition which meant that he and my family spent lots of time at the Children’s Hospital throughout his life. The play specialists which are funded by The Grand Appeal provided a break from the intimidating clinical setting for Calum and I. They also allowed us to be kids during overwhelming and challenging times. That support was vital as we spent countless hours throughout our childhood in the hospital. In Calum’s later life he enjoyed his work experience at The Grand Appeal office.
Without the funding from The Grand Appeal, our childhood would have been much bleaker. So, I would be greatful if you could donate, as it will have a huge impact on the numerous children and family’s receiving life saving care at the Bristol Children’s Hospital like it did for Calum and our whole family.
