Story
1 in 5 of us will develop a lung condition during our lifetime. There's a new diagnosis every minute. Unfortunately I have seen this first hand with family members and friends that have died with lung disease. My Mum is also a long term sufferer of COPD, with a significantly reduced lung capacity that makes every day activities a significant challenge and one that is further exacerbated by poor air quality.
In light of this, I am going to take part in the 2024 London Marathon to raise funds for Asthma + Lung UK.
They’re the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone can have healthy lungs through driving increases in R&D, fighting for improvements in air quality, ensuring everyone with a lung condition gets a prompt diagnosis and follow up treatment, raising overall awareness of the impact of lung disease and the very low funding levels it currently attracts, and providing a Helpline that allows those with lung conditions to get the advice and support they need - £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK’s nurses to answer a call on the Helpline and offer potentially lifesaving advice.
If any of this resonates with you, I will be very grateful for any support you can give.
