Hi, I am a director of a North East Training Company (B-Skill Ltd) and I have set myself an innovative fundraising mission which will send me all the way to the dizzy heights of Mount Everest base camp to meet my £10k target.

B-skill Ltd, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, and to join in with the celebration, I have set myself 10 physically grueling challenges to hopefully raise £10,000 for The Ear Trust.

Over the next 12 months, I will climb the Yorkshire and British Three Peaks, compete in the 13 mile Great North Run twice, trek the 84 mile distance of Hadrian’s Wall and move one step closer to my attempt of one of world’s most harrowing challenges – to conquer Mount Everest.

“With the current economic climate as it stands, it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise money for charity so I thought I’m going to have to do something a bit bigger that the usual runs and bike rides.

“And so, I am aiming to complete 10 challenges before the end of 2010 and raise £10,000 for The Ear Trust.  It’s quite a tall order but definitely worth a try!”

My biggest challenge, and the one I am most looking forward to, is my trip to Mount Everest base camp in April 2010. “I have been fascinated by Everest since I was very young but never ever thought that I would have the means or a reason to go there.

“Next April, I am aiming for Base Camp as this will prepare me physically, and help me finically, accomplish my biggest goal, to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain in 2011.”

Training is now at the top of my agenda: “I’m in the gym most days for at least two hours, but I plan on moving my training outdoors very soon, starting in the Lake District and Wales, to experience different weather conditions and environments.”

“I actually need to lose about 20lbs before the Everest trip, so I really need to keep focused and keep working hard!”

The charity at the heart of Paul’s challenge is The Ear Trust, which, aims to help people with hearing and other ear problems by supporting the use of cochlear implants across the Northern region, to enable babies, children and adults with profound hearing loss to begin to hear.

Founder of The Ear Trust, and Bradford Royal Infirmary surgeon, Chris Raine, said: “Paul certainly has set himself a challenge of a lifetime, and everyone here at The Ear Trust is behind him every step of the way.
