Story
Thank you for visiting my site. In 2006 I completed a double marathon challenge and raised over £5000 for Macmillan Cancer relief. I was inspired by a truly great man called Dave Heeley, or Blind Dave as he likes to be known. Dave completed 7 marathons on 7 continents on 7 consecutive days, culminating with the Flora London Marathon on April 13th 2008, when I ran alongside him and Mac. All the money I raise will eventually go towards Dave's total, as does the money raised by all of the Guide Dogs runners in the London Marathon.
If you are not sure about making a donation, please do one thing for me before you finally decide. Sit down, close your eyes and try to imagine what life would be like if you were blind. Even the simplest thing like making a cup of tea or getting dressed must be so difficult. Your donation will help give some independence to someone like Dave.
I began my training regime in September 2007, and completed the Great North Run, and the Flora Silverstone half-marathon as part of the warm up. The downside of running the London Marathon is that most of the training is done in the winter. I must admit that there were times when the weather was miserably cold and I would have preferred to have been at home in the warm rather than blown around in the sleet and snow. The highest mileage I did in a rolling 7 days was 50, which is nothing compared to the 120 miles per week that Dave and Mac built up to.
Thanks to the help of Dave and Sue Alger, and my partner Carol, our fundraising barndance on Saturday 26th April was a great succes and has helped to swell the fund by over £800.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Guide Dogs will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
