We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

We have now completed the challenge !

At times it was quite strenuous, particularly conic hill and the Devils Staircase sections, but overall it was very enjoyable and worthwhile to raise so much for The Alzheimers Society.

There are photos of our journey on Facebook. You don't have to login to Facebook to view them here:

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November 2009 I managed to walk from Milngavie (nr Glasgow) to Fort William - a distance of 96 miles! This is the West Highland Way. Have a look at the WHW website for more information about the route (http://www.west-highland-way.co.uk/). See some of the photos on the left side of this page.

This year I will be walking the WHW with Mike Trump & Steve Anderson to raise money for a very important cause. Alzhiemers has affected not just our own families, but many other families. I am sure that many of you know some of these familes too.

Alzhiemers is a very distressing disease for everyone involved, not just the sufferor. Alzhiemers is generally a long term disease where the sufferor has dementia and goes into a gradual decline over many years. Seeing someone who you love and have many fond memories of during your lives together suffering with this disease is very stressful, but the Alzhiemers Society can help everyone affected.

The Alzhiemers Society offers day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring.

We will be leaving to embark on this journey on October 15th 2010 and the walk will take 7 days, an average of 14 miles per day. While there we will stop at the following places:

Friday 15th Oct (Outgoing day) – Flight to Glasgow, travel to Milngavie.
Day 1 – Milngavie to Balmaha - 20 miles
Day 2 – to Inversnaid - 14 miles
Day 3 - to Crainlarich - 13 miles
Day 4 - to Bridge of Orchy - 13 miles
Day 5 - to Kings House - 13 miles
Day 6 - to Kinlochleven - 9 miles
Day 7 - to Fort William - 14 miles
Sat 23rd Oct (Return Day) – Train back to Glasgow, Fly home.

I will try and arrange GPS tracking so that you can see where we are each day of the walk from my Facebook page. www.facebook.com/porkopops
