Story

Mount Everest . April, May 2009

                  One Pound Per Metre!

Hello, And thanks very much for visiting my fund-raising page.

Well, here's the plan. In early April this year I fly to Nepal and from there overland to Tibet and a base camp on the North side of Everest. Our route is up the North and North East Ridge with the usual summit attempts being made in mid May when there is often a suitable weather window. More details can be found at:-

www.pauljameseverest.co.uk

Why am I doing it? - Two reason really; the first is that I want the opportunity to raise some money for Cancer Research UK - all of us get touched by cancer at some point and in the last year it has had an effect on my father and also a very close friend. The more money that all of us can raise the better. The second reason is I'm a climber and I've always wanted a crack at 'The Big E' - Jet2.com have generously given me the time off, for which I am very grateful, and I can't miss out on such an opportunity.

Cancer Research UK do a fantastic job and everything you give here will go towards their amazing work.

As Everest is 8850m high I have changed my sponsorship target to match this figure. One pound for every metre is now the challenge, both to fund raise and to climb. I will do my very best to get to the top of Mt Everest - that's at 29,035 feet in old money (FL290 or just inside RVSM airspace for all the pilots out there!) - and the very fact that you have sponsored me will drive me on.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Just giving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Thank you so much, Paul.

UPDATE:

Wow, I am totally overwhelmed at the response to this site so far - thank you all. I now have my own web page up and running  with expedition news and pics, plus I am in the process of creating a link to Facebook. This is brilliant!!

12.2.09  This gets better and better. We have just passed the £2000 mark ... fantastic, thank you so much to everyone below I'm so touched by what people have given and the brilliant words of support. Training is going well - I'm walking up hill a lot and best of all eating lots of pies! - I need to be FIT, FAT & LUCKY!!

27.3.09 OK, I'm all ready to go, my bags are packed and my eating campaigne has been pretty busy!  I leave from Manchester on Wednesday morning and from there we make slow progress into Tibet and up towards Base Camp. I shall be sending back emails to the site so progress can be followed there and via the Adventure Peaks web site. At the moment there appears to be problems with visas being issued into Tibet but fingers crossed we should be into Base Camp by early to mid April. Thanks to everyone for all the donations so far, it really is fantastic what everyone has done. We are almost half way now - please tell all your friends to have a look at my site. So that's it from me, please feel free to send me emails via my hotmail address from the site and they will be forwarded onto me. Thanks once again. Paul

9/4/09 OK I'm on my way to Tibet - we have spent some time acclimatising in the Khumbu region on the south side of Everest waiting for the border into Tibet to open. We are told that it is all systems go into the North side. Full updates are on my own web site (see below). Thanks to everyone for keeping the fund raising going - I check here regularly and really appreciate your messages. I
