Following on from my previous challenge back in 2010 where I ran 2 marathons on the same weekend for Cancer Research I am training to treble that feat by undertaking the Marathon Des Sables in Morocco in less than 5 weeks time.  

This event is dubbed the world's toughest race and takes place in the Sahara desert over 7 days. The total distance is 150 miles which is covered cross country at varying daily distances with the initial day starting at 15 miles building up to Day 4 - the longest day which typically lasts 50 miles and goes on throughout the night into day 5. The remaining days cover the remaining 30 and 20 miles respectively. Temperatures average between 30 and 40 degrees C and all kit for the 7 days must be carried by the individual.

For this event I have chosen Shelter as my chosen charity. 

Shelter captured my interest this year in the build up to Christmas by making me aware of just how many people will be homeless at this season and throughout the year in general.  I am grateful for the comfortable life I lead with such good friends and family but for others this is not the case especially where fortunes and circumstances have changed unexpectedly for the worse.
