Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I'm one of the lucky ones.
Thanks to regular health checks provided by my employer, Lloyds TSB, my prostate cancer was diagnosed in the early stages and there is every chance that the treatment I have been receiving will have been successful. But not everyone is so lucky. Each year about 30,000 men are told they have prostate cancer and about 10,000 men die of it – that’s one person every 50 minutes.
So I reckon it's payback time, and I shall be taking part in the Snowdon 500 challenge (details at www.snowdon500.co.uk) on 16th May 2009 to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Research Centre (PCRC). PCRC is based at the Institute of Urology at University College London. It has a worldwide reputation for innovation and discovery in the field of prostate cancer research. Under the leadership of Professor John Masters the Research Centre employs 15 scientists and support staff and needs £1.5M each year to fund its highly respected research programme.
Please will you sponsor me? I've set myself a modest target of raising £1000, but secretly I'd like to beat that by a wide margin - which with your help I shall!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Prostate Cancer Research Centre gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
19/2/2009 A big thank-you to David and Chris Stewart for giving me a plug in the Walkingworld newsletter. For those who haven't already discovered it, I thoroughly recommend their website for details of walks, with downloadable route cards, maps, digital mapping files etc. Find it at www.walkingworld.com
25/2/2009 REVISED TARGET. What a generous lot of friends, family and colleagues I've got. So it's time to raise the bar, and I've upped the target by 50%. Please dig deep!
