Story
On the 9th/10th of September 2009 I’m going to be attempting, with the aid of Jon, Chris and my brother Steve, The Three Peaks Challenge. This involves climbing the three highest peaks, respectively, in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours. The Peaks are:
Despite it's growing popularity, no one should under
estimate the difficulty of the challenge. It is very easy to get lost,
particularly when mountains need to be climbed in the dark or in poor weather.
We’re doing the walk to raise money for the Help for
Heroes charity. Help for heroes is a charity launched in 2007 to raise
funds to help provide better facilities for British servicemen & women
who’ve been injured in the current conflicts. Several of my close
friends are in the various armed forces and many of them have seen colleagues
injured in the line of duty. We’re looking to raise money to help
these, and others like them, who risk their lives on a daily basis on behalf of
the rest of us.
Whilst we’ve been up to now focusing on getting ourselves ready for the walk I’ve not forgotten the reasons we’re doing this in the first place – to raise as much money as we can for a cause that we consider to be particularly worthy. That’s why I’m hoping for as many donations as possible from as many people as possible! Even if you have one less drink this weekend and give us the cost of a pint! It will all add up and hopefully we’ll surpass our target with ease!!
