LANDS END TO JOHN O'GROATS - 14 July, 2007
1 MAN, 1 BIKE, 14 DAYS, 1000 MILES AND A SORE........
Why am I doing it?
Having completed the West to East 'Coast to Coast' walk in 2004, I had decided to try and complete the South to North cycle ride as a personal challenge this summer. Various friends and family have subsequently suggested that this was a great opportunity to raise some funds for charity. I think this suggestion had even greater resonance following the incredibly sad and frighteningly sudden death of a friend and business colleague, Roger Powell, in recent weeks.
Which charities?
I have decided to raise funds for 4 charities - British Heart Foundation (www.bhf.org.uk), Leeds Children's Gift Fund (www.leedscommunityfoundation.org.uk), Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (www.irhh.org.) and The Rowans Hospice (www.rowanshospice.co.uk). The first 2 charities are those supported by Roger's family, whilst the hospices are both ones where I have a personal connection. I hope you will agree that they are all deserving causes.
I am grateful for the help and support of Leeds Community Foundation who have helped set up this site and who will initially be collecting any donations, prior to subsequent distribution to the various charities.
My contribution?
In addition to funding the trip and (hopefully) cycling the distance, I have also kicked off the fundraising with a personal donation to the charities (whether I succeed or fail!). Hopefully, with your support, we can increase this further.
How can you help?
I would really welcome your sponsorship support, either on a personal or corporate capacity, to help add to the funds of these fantastic charities. You can donate via this site or please contact Amanda Wingfield of Leeds Community Foundation on 0113 2422426 if you would prefer to send a cheque, cash or CAF cheque - or if there are any technical difficulties with the site.
You can also help by sending details of this site on to anyone else that might be able to support our fundraising effort. The site url is www.justgiving.com/pjy
THANKS FOR ANY SUPPORT YOU CAN PROVIDE. LETS JUST HOPE IT STOPS RAINING!
