Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On our son William’s twenty week scan it was identified that he had a condition called Talipes. Not having any knowledge of what it was was a very scary time for us.
Visiting the Steps Charity website was a great education for us and while it may not have removed all our worries and concerns, it was a great source of knowledge to prepare us for when William was born.
William arrived on August 31st a healthy baby boy weighing in at 8lb 7 and a half oz’s, and we could then see for ourselves the extent of his talipes. The paediatrician diagnosed them as bilateral fixed talipes (fixed talipes in both feet). We were told that they would refer us to both Physiotherapy and Orthapedics. We received our first appointment and it seemed that the severity of the talipes meant that it would require Plaster Casts and an operation on his tendons followed by a boot and bar, commonly known as the Ponsetti method. William was to be in plaster to possibly Christmas time. All this came as a bit of a shock to us, not expecting it on his first visit, and the night following his appointment was a very discomforting time for him.
Going through this experience and knowing what a valuable resource that the Steps website was for us and can be for other families experiencing the same as us, I felt that I wanted to do something positive for them and with William having talipes has really spurred me on to try and raise funds for the charity.
******************UPDATE**********************
I had originally planned to run the Edinburgh Marathon this year, however due to issues with training such as the snow and also problems with Will's sleeping which has caused me to have a severe lack of sleep I believe I may have bitten off more than I can chew trying to do a full marathon this year. But use this year as more of a year to complete smaller runs in a bid to complete a full marathon in 2011.
So instead, I will be doing the Derby 10K run in April, the Robin Hood Half marathon in September and I plan to find another run in June/July time of Half Marathon length to run.
If you wish for me to return your donations due to originally donating for the full marathon, then I will be happy to do so.

Any donation you can give will be gratefully received and with the knowledge that it will be going to a charity close to our hearts.
Many thanks
Paul
