My story

Project Chesed

Project Chesed is the welfare and social action arm of the United Synagogue. It teaches the Jewish responsibility we have for our fellow human beings, encourages more acts of charity and kindness and inspires our community to make a difference.

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Project Chesed is a joint initiative of the United Synagogue Community Division and the London School of Jewish Studies, established to educate and inspire our members to think about others, their communities, and the wider world around them and to engage our communities and members in practical Chesed projects - making a tangible difference to other people's lives. We educate the Jewish values behind all our projects based on our firm belief that learning should lead to action.

Our work includes the funding of around 500 Pesach food parcels each year to people unable to afford the costs associated with Pesach, plus we distribute over 5,000 boxes of matzah to people in need across the Jewish community. We train, support and advise the hundreds of volunteers working within our 46 synagogue-based Cares Groups. And in this current financial crisis we are advising our communities on how to reach out to people affected by the financial crisis and are supporting the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue's Shabbat Fund that provides Shabbat meals for those struggling to put food on their table for Shabbat.

We have several other initiatives - see www.theus.org.uk/chesed for further details. Our work relies entirely on donations and generous sponsors. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to support us: United Synagogue gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support!
