A little about us:
Shaun Matisonn
Longest distance ever run: 90 kms One liner why you're doing this: Raising money and finishing a marathon are great things to do Proudest sporting achievement: cycling to the top of alp d'huez with my dad Goal for the marathon: beat my marathon pb. What you plan to do that afternoon: play with my kids
Ricky Farber
Longest distance ever run: The first 28km of a marathon. Does 14 km of shuffling count? One liner why you're doing this: Did not have anything better to do than travel half way round the world and put myself through five hours of suffering. Proudest sporting achievement: My first race - why else would I still be at it? Goal for the marathon: To enjoy the event. Why rush? What you plan to do that afternoon: Roam the streets of London and wave my medal at anyone who will listen.
Alan Jacobson
Longest distance ever run: 89km One liner why you're doing this: The experience of running an international race with work colleges and 35000 other runners Proudest sporting achievement: Comrades Marathon (89km) in 2005 Goal for the marathon: Enjoy the experience and absorb the atmosphere What you plan to do that afternoon: Certainly not still be running the race
Matt Shimell
Longest distance ever run: To the last N14 bus…. One liner why you're doing this: I was bullied into it really. Proudest sporting achievement: Never been a long distance runner, but was proud to win the junior south of England golf championship Goal for the marathon: Be able to keep up with those crazy runners in funny outfits that weigh 10 kilos What you plan to do that afternoon: finish the marathon
Danielle Steinberg
Longest distance ever run: 42.195km One liner why you're doing this: I love the training, having something challenging to aim for and reversing the effects of the heathrow injection is a bonus. Proudest sporting achievement: 3 days after my first marathon (when the pain from the marathon had dulled and I could walk again). Goal for the marathon: To run it in under 3:30 What you plan to do that afternoon: I could plan to visit some of the thousands of sick children you will be helping when you sponsor us, but after having run 42.195km, raising a few thousand pounds and ingested a few litres of water, I'll most probably find a comfortable place to celebrate where I don't need to move to get a drink.
Janice Southway
Longest distance ever run: Have completed five 1/2 marathons, but never more running mileage than that. Went through a 'mountain marathon' phase when younger, but max mileage was around 30 and that wasn't running all the way! One liner why you're doing this: I've been dying to do this for ages and have entered the ballot for the last 4 years. It's a lifetime ambition! Proudest sporting achievement: apart from my first 1/2 marathon in 2000, skiing the Hahnenkann down-hill and keeping both legs intact was pretty special. Goal for the marathon: ask me in 3 months! What you plan to do that afternoon: do they employ masseurs in pubs?
Scott Thompson
Longest distance ever run: I once ran to the end of the street One liner why you're doing this: Beat the Gunman. Proudest sporting achievement: At age twelve I climbed 7 flights of stairs without stopping. Goal for the marathon: To finish, and finish in front of the Gunman. What you plan to do that afternoon: Bike to Dover, swim to France
Cecilia Hermida
Longest distance ever run: A half marathon plus the bit to the starting line since I was late…. The extra bit counts! One liner why you're doing this: Insanity Proudest sporting achievement: Previous attacks of insanity which led me to do a 109km cycle race… two years in a row. Goal for the marathon: Publicly to finish, personally I still have to figure out what I think my body can do and then take time off that! What you plan to do that afternoon: A dance of joy, although I might have to use puppets and sit somewhere instead.
Andy Gunn
Longest distance ever run: Well, some would say its debatable if the shuffle and crawl I do in an Ironman counts as running and therefore if I could legitimately claim to have run a marathon as my furthest distance. However, so long as you can see day light under a shoe during the knee lift phase, it counts as running to me, so a marathon it is. One liner why you're doing this: just to give Scott Thompson the opportunity to gloat one last time for beating me.... Proudest sporting achievement: Using Ironman Brazil as a mechanism to gain a free ride in a Brazilian ambulance and two hours with Brazilian nurses... Goal for the marathon: To do a time that's exactly equal to 5 times my age. What you plan to do that afternoon: It has to be a ride in an ambulance.........
Thank you very much for your support.
