Story

Man 3 -0 Mountains

(after extra time)

Much like the smile on the Mona Lisa, the origins behind PwC Gatwick’s involvement in the “Three Peaks in 24 hours” challenge in aid of CARE International, a global humanitarian aid charity are shrouded in mystery, but whatever the reason for taking part (extreme kindheartedness, utter stupidity or possibly one big misunderstanding) something in the idea seemed to catch the imagination of the PwC Gatwick office, and with the kind of nonchalant complacence usually only found in parachute salesmen at a lemming hill walking convention, twenty five of Team Gatwick’s finest signed up for the mission.

With three teams entered at a total sponsorship target of £15,000, it looked like Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon were not the only mountains that Team Gatwick were going to have to climb: However, the fundraising effort was approached with gusto, and a combination of a highly successful football tournament, raffles, lottery sweepstakes, dress down days, and some notable solo efforts by individual members of the team, resulted in the team blitzing this behemoth of a target.

On the big day, fuelled by a sizeable “carbohydrate loading” session (sausage, egg and beans), the team simultaneously beat the disappointment of missing Englands opening World Cup game, the hottest day of the year and a last minute minibus crisis (never ever use discount car hire companies) to complete the challenge, without any intervention from Search and Rescue.

A big thanks to everyone who took part and for the generosity of everyone who has donated.
