My story
Four teams – one goal. The London Eye!
Take part in what will be a great day out in London by walking a 30km circular route from/to the London Eye in London's newest charity event Race to the Eye. Meet new people, get some exercise and help raise money for a truly amazing charity VSO.
How to sign-up: It costs just £20 to register - Just donate the money to this Just Giving Page and state your free T-shirt size (e.g. Joe Bloggs - Large)
Next Steps: Read the below to get more details about the challenge, after party and fundraising. We are trying to raise £50,000 for VSO which works out about £200 per person, we have written guidelines for this to make it easy for you. Click on ‘Read more of my story’ below for more details…
Details, details, details...
When: Sunday April 1st - 10am registration in Whitehall Gardens (It's the park in-between the Tattershal castle and the Liberal Club).10.30am start. Finish walk between 15:00 – 18:00, there’s no rush. Celebration drinks until 21:00
Participation: This is open to anyone at all! Bring friends, family, colleagues and clients
Places: We are aiming for 250 participants – the more the merrier!
The Charity: We are raising money for VSO – the world leading international development charity that works through volunteers. Money raised will support Skills to Succeed aligned projects and we are aiming to provide 1000 people around the world with the skills to get jobs, contribute to their communities and lead successful lives
The Challenge:
· Four teams will meet by the London Eye, grab their team T-Shirt and then each set off at about 10.30 in opposite directions and on opposite banks of the Thames and ‘race’ back to the London Eye. This is as fun or as competitive as you want… you can walk, run or hop if you want... It’s meant to be fun!
· The 30km routes along the Thames Path each loop back to the finish point at the London Eye. Please download our routes sheet to see more
Prizes: We have some great prizes for the highest fundraiser (genuinely a great prize) and if you raise over £200 we will also enter you into a raffle with some other fantastic goodies.
After party: There will be an after party where you can enjoy some celebratory food and drinks on the 'Tattershall Castle' (a permanently moored boat on opposite the London Eye), including the raffle and prize giving.
So, here’s what you need to do to take part…
Register: It costs just £20 to register – this will give you a free T-Shirt and drink on your safe return. Please donate on this page and provide: Your name and T-shirt size (e.g. Paul Gurney – XL). Then email Rob Thorburn at VSO (robert.thorburn@vso.org.uk) with your full name and he'll get in touch with further details about the event.
Fundraise: We are trying to raise £50,000 which works out at about £200 per person. To make this easy, we have written a JustGiving help sheet to guide you in setting up a justgiving page and even written you some text to put on it.
Choose a team: We have four teams – please choose one at the team sign up website. It really doesn’t matter which team you sign up to – they all end up in the same place! If you want to take part as a group – it is probably easiest if you sign up as a group (see site for details). Ideally please sign up for the team with the least participants so we have equal sized teams.
Turn up and have an amazing day: We look forward to a great day come rain or shine! Please download our routes sheet if you want some help with the route (it is almost impossible to get lost!)
Best of luck with the fundraising!!
