We help people in the local community to make a new beginning in their lives

Story

LASTEST UPDATE:

British weather has prevailed and the skydive's been pushed back to JANUARY, believe it or not...It'll have to be done after New Years (weather permitting). When it's too windy, cloudy or foggy the organisers do not let anyone jump.

You will be kept up to speed on what happens. Thanks to all who have helped out! God bless you.

Here's the story:

UCKG Peckham. A counselling centre. A place for young people to receive direction for their lives. A caring hand to the elderly. Encouragement and healing for the sick. The Peckham HelpCentre provides essential services to the community every single day, all FREE of charge, regardless of a person’s religion, race, or sexual orientation.

But from January 2008, around 400 people who regularly benefit from these services may no longer find it available — including 100 young men and women and 70 children.

What is the problem, why would it have to close down?

Our 10-year lease has come to an end and the new landlord, a property investor, wants to redevelop the property to include shops and flats above. Our options are to find alternative premises, accept a much smaller space within the new development for an unacceptably high rent, or buy the property.

After lengthy consultations with our lawyers and property consultants, we have concluded that buying the property is the best option for us.

We plan to open a brand new, fully equipped Youth Centre. The ethos of this new project will be training, academic excellence, and life skills. We believe this project will put young men and women of Peckham in the headlines for the right reasons.

• IT courses such as CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information
Technology)
• Mentoring services
• Career guidance
• Leisure space

All this, of course, will only be possible if the HelpCentre in Peckham stays open...

That's why I will be doing a sponsored skydive in the last week of November to help raise money for the Peckham Appeal and I'm counting on YOUR support to make it happen. My target is £3,250 which I WILL REACH before making the jump. The jump will be recorded and I will post it online for all to see.

Help me keep the doors of the UCKG in PECKHAM open. Sponsor me today!

Thanks for your support,
