Story

Great news, I have completed my 10th London Marathon in 04:06:15.

Thanks for looking at my fundraising site. If you would sponsor me right now that would be great particularly as I am raising funds for charity.

I ran in aid of Kent Association for the Blind (KAB). Back in 2001 (those were the days) I missed out on a place in the ballot, so when my wife Carol heard on the local news that KAB were looking for people to run within their charity places, I jumped at the chance.

Since then I’ve continued to return the thanks for letting me run for them. As well as raising money for a good cause, I really enjoy the challenge and it helps to keep me in shape (although I have to say I still can’t seem to shift that extra stone that seemed to appear after a recent three-week trip to America!).

I always aim to complete the marathon within four hours, running non-stop. My best time was 3hrs 23mins in 2003, which I know I couldn’t improve on now, but I think I’m still pretty good for my age!

I would still dearly love to achieve my overall target of £40,000, having raised £33,468 to date. Last year I raised just over £4,000, which was great considering the economic times.

I do regular talks now for runners to help them raise money for good causes. I would say to anyone thinking about taking up running – just go for it! Start slowly and gradually build up, maybe not to a marathon distance, but just down the road and back or round the block is a great achievement. And if you ever enter a race, take plenty of water and never wear new shoes!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If you prefer, you can make a payment to KAB and send the payment to: Ray Johnson, Church House, 136 Sandgate Road, Folkestone. CT20 2BN.

Thanks once again to all my sponsors that include The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Mercure Hythe Imperial, Nike, McCabe Ford Williams, Lancaster Hill Investment Management, Arctic Medical Ltd, Independent Insurance Services and everyone else who is donating.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Regards

Ray
