Story
It was January, I'd eaten too much pud and this bird had gotten fat. No bother I said! I'll do the marathon. That'll shake me into shape.
So I found a guide runner in the form of the writer and performer Sophie Woolley, (who will be touring the country in 2007 with her astutely observed one-woman show 'When to Run' about the joys and sorrows of pavement pounding), we found a piece of rope and away we went!
Guide running works like this - I put my trust in Sophie and she pulls me along on a rope, yanking me out of way if I waver too near the canal edge or a bike is about to run me over. She's fitter than me and after our first run together I asked her if I felt like a heavy, unfit Doberman Pinscher dragging on her arm but she replied that she was the one who felt like a dog; a little Husky dog pulling a toboggan through the snow!
I'm running for the Guide Dogs and writing about it in a monthly column for Runner's World magazine. If you would like to sponsor me then fill in the form below and I’ll be your friend forever!
BIG thanks!
