Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 16 August this year, about a month before my 47th birthday, I shall be taking part in the SVP100.  The SVP100 is a 100 km foot race along the Stour Valley Path here in the East of England. 100 km is just over 62 miles if you were wondering and there are various time bound cut offs that I have to dip under along the way.  It's not just a leisurely trail run dressed head to toe in lycra in stunning countryside.  Oh no no no no no no no no no girlfriend!  It's a proper foot race and a pretty tough one at that.

I'm running as my wife was recently given the all clear from cancer which was and still is just the best news.

Having run for a number of cancer charities over the years since she was diagnosed, this ultra race seemed a fitting way to end that chapter in our lives.  A distance that looks on paper to be probably a little too far and too painful for me to contemplate, but with some focused training, discipline and self belief, maybe possible.  A bit like her journey seemed at times.  That said this might very well be the most stupid idea I’ve ever had. Whatever happens I plan to go hard and go home when the job is done.  This will be the last charity vest that I pull on.

The furthest I have ever run to date in one session is 40 miles so this is a fair jump in distance.

Please donate what you can.  The nurses that do the work for this charity out in the field truly are wonderful people and this is a great way to support them and flog me at the same time. Cancer is a horrible thing, it really is.  Whether it is you or a loved one, it always jumps out on you unannounced and turns your world upside down.

The people at Macmillan are just there, waiting in the wings for when you need them and they sweep in, pick up the pieces and make everything better, for five minutes at least...

Thanks for reading.  (This is the part where you sponsor me...)
