I went to the doctors on 5th Jan 2012 with what I thought was a frozen shoulder, but immediately told it was not and to go to give a blood sample. As a good wee boy I went to give a sample for the first time ever, after making an appointment to return in one month. Duly turned up on 3 Feb., a date I will always remember to be told I had a positive result for RA. An appointment was made to see a Rheumatologist on 17 April.

So after a good going over, I was old I had very aggressive RA. Usually on a first visit she expected to see 6 minor joints inflamed, she lost count with me at over 20. Then more blood tests, and on my second visit told I had extremely high markers for everything to do with RA and was to start on Methotrexate that week.

As you can imagine I was scared, so phoned NRAS, the first helpline number I found on the internet. They have been great and so I want to give a little back.

Now on 133 tablets a week, Methotrexate, Sulphasalazine, Hydroxychloroquinne, Folic Acid, Tramadol, Naproxen, Omeprazole. I have been to see nearly every department in the local hospital, had surgery to repair ruptured tendons in my hand. Always there to help me is NRAS and my Rheumatology Nurse.
