Event: Run Higher Collective Social Justice Challenge, on 26 July 2020
We push the limits of human endurance to fight modern slavery.

Story

Run Higher Collective is coming together with collective effort to raise funds and awareness of modern slavery for TRIBE through a team challenge aiming to educate ourselves on the history of slavery throughout time.

Tribe Freedom Foundation’s mission is to fight modern slavery and end human trafficking.

There is no typical victim of slavery, modern slavery impacts all ethnicities, genders and nationalities however it is prevalent amongst the most vulnerable and within minority or socially excluded groups.

During this lockdown period,  support for victims of modern slavery is crucial.

Modern slavery today is a commodification of people for the purpose of exploitation and financial gain. There are currently more victims than ever before, both in the UK and globally.

We found it important to raise awareness of modern slavery by looking back at how slavery existed in the past, particularly with enslavement of black people in history. This run will expose many uncomfortable truths, including how London profited vastly from the trade in human beings, and that slavery has not gone away and remains a real problem for London today.

This self guided running tour is raising awareness of slavery in London and every donation helps contribute to the TRIBE Freedom Foundation, which aims to draw attention to the potential risk of increased forced labour and trafficking due to financial instability and lockdown situation spurred on by covid19.

The following historical run/cycle tour highlights historical areas in London which are crucial to understanding the history of slavery.

Challenge:

Run a running/cycling tour around London in a group of 4 (virtually or in person) to find at least 4 (one per each person or all of them together) of the following suggested historical sites of importance. You may do this as part of a relay or all together. Each location will give you 50 points.

Each of the historical sites can be visited in individual running or cycling segments to be combined into one entry.

We hope that through this challenge you are empowered to learn about the history of slavery and how modern slavery is still occurring today. Hopefully this tour will help heritage be more inclusive of the abolitionists who fought to end slavery in the U.K.

This challenge is not meant to offend anyone in any way, and is only encouraged to demonstrate messages of equality and inclusivity in recounting history.
