Story

UPDATE 22nd April 2009

Very concerned now as I have to pick up my running numbers etc tomorrow.  Look forward to seeing you on the course, I'll be out there for a long time.  If you mail me and tell me where you are standing, I'll look out for you.  I should be easy to spot.

Thanks for all your generous donations and emails so far as this will make a huge difference to Save the Rhino International.  For those I haven't spoken to personally please google the Save The Rhino site to see exactly why I'm doing this, chosen this charity and what you are sponsoringwww.savetherhino.org Most of I have spoken with think I'm mad but it will all be worth it on Sunday at about 4.00pm, when I look back at the efforts but more importantly the long term effects my sponsorship can have for Save The Rhino.

Last push now for sponsorship and please help this worthy cause.

UPDATE 20/04/09

HELP only 6 days to go.!!!!!!!!!

Getting Worried!!!!!!!

I gave the costume a run out in the Bath Half Marathon on the 15th March with 15 work colleagues. I completed theBath half marathon course in 2 hrs 30 mins and was absolutely shattered.  The idea of another 13 miles is going to be very tough physically and mentally.

Please sponsor me and help me get round the 26 miles....

The famous two stone Rhino suit and 26 miles to complete.

And theBath Half marathon 13 miles with Colleagues and Friends from work. Please leave messages for my mates too!

I'm raising money for "Save the Rhino".

The Charity I'm supporting is Save the Rhino International.  Save the Rhino works to conserve viable populations of critically endangered rhinos in Africa andAsia

The future of wildlife is inextricably linked to the communities that share its habitat. The aim of Save The Rhino by funding field projects and through education is to deliver long-lasting and widespread benefits to rhinos, other endangered species and ecosystems. It is hoped that this in turn will improve the quality of life for the people living in these areas.

After a year of training I'm nearly ready for the race and now it's the big push to marathon day.  I'm looking to complete the course in 5hrs 30mins (the fastest Rhino to complete the marathon is 5hrs 15mins.  Yes of course I'm trying to beat that.....)  I'm going to give the costume a run out in the Bath Half Marathon on the 15th March with 15 work colleagues.  Apparently the Rhino Suit is like wearing a huge crisp packet on the inside, with limited air and built in fluid carriers.  The head and body are on a ruck sack harness and I will need to run with my arms out in front of me controlling the head (It's made for interesting training).  The challenge all seemed a long time away a year ago when I had the  idea but now is just around the corner.

The pledges of sponsorship will motivate me in my last push for the finishing line but more importantly help my Charity.  Please help me in my efforts to raise money for the worthwhile cause.

Many Thanks

Robbo (“the Rhino”)
