Story
Hi Everyone,
With the 2010 World Cup, the world's eyes will turn to South Africa and the nation will take center stage. Nevertheless, in contrast to the celebration surrounding this event lays a harsh reality. Nearly half of the 49 million population live below the poverty line and many lack adequate housing. South Africa has come a long way since the days of Apartheid but it now faces a new feat: the challenge to end poverty housing.
I will be spending the 12th to the 18th of September 2010 in Cape Town building houses with Habitat for Humanity. We will be working side-by-side with the local population to help them build safe and decent homes.
I have already contributed £300 to Habitat for Humanity but, with your help, I hope to raise much more. Over the years, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 13,955 houses across South Africa. In addition, a lot of their work supports Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s projects.
A decent home should be a universal right; it provides not only shelter but also a sense of dignity. I hope that you will be able to support me in this challenge.
