Story

Towards the end of training a parachute regiment recruit is expected to cover a distance of 10 miles of undulating * terrain wearing army boots, carrying 35lbs on his back and a rifle.

This activity is undertaken by people in their late teens / early twenties after months of surviving one of the toughest training courses the British army has to offer. You would have to be some kind of lunatic to attempt such a task under any other circumstance.

Say you were in your mid thirties with training slotted in around a full time job and  signed up for this voluntarily…. Well you’d have to be seriously crazy, a total nutter, a complete heed the ball…………………..

Hi,

I’m Richard

On the 12th September this year I will be taking a stroll in the countryside around Catterick barracks carrying 35lb backpack and wearing (amongst other things) a pair of army boots, I don’t have a rifle.

I am doing this for numerous reasons, ranging from:

A desire to prove that I am fitter than people half my age.

The deep sense of satisfaction that comes after doing something really difficult, not quitting looking back and thinking “I actually did that”

Plain and simple bragging rights

To raise money for a very good cause.

To demonstrate an indominatable spirit.

Sustrans provides creative, innovative and practical solutions to the transport challenges affecting us all.  By working with communities, local authorities and many other organisations, we create change by putting people at the heart of activities, enabling many more people to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.Sustrans….
