Story

FINAL WEIGH-OUT 17 April CAME IN AT 95KGs

Here Is The City sought overweight bankers (men or women who are at least 2 stone bigger than they should be), helping to change their lives with three simple words - calorie controlled diet. The bankers will, under their own steam and in whatever manner they choose, lose weight over a 3 month period in 2008.

Whoever loses the biggest percentage of their body weight over this period will be declared the winner. All participants will be losing weight for charity (and themselves, of course).

I spent 3 nights and a day at Crisis Open Christmas last year (2007) and I ask you to support me by digging deep and sponsor me online.  If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost.

Please sponsor me and help me lose weight.

Thank you very much

Richard Hawkins

What a close finish - my final weight loss worked out at 14.87% and the runner up was 14.82% - a matter of less than 1/10th of a kilo!  Winning was great however the fact that over £13,000 was raised for the various charities were the real winners.
Those who I have either met or seen emails from have agreed an exercise worth doing - at the very least for a life style change and keep the weight off (and in a couple of cases at least continue the good work of weight loss and raising money for charity).  Without you, though, I would not have achieved either.
Thanks all once again and do re-visit from time to time to see progress towards 90kgs.
Thanks all once again

17 April 2008
We had our final weigh-ins (results to be published) and I came in at a
surprising 95.0kgs - drop of 16.5kgs in 3 months or 14.8% of body mass.
Results from the other participants are due soon - I suspect Here is the
City will make it into a "headlines" situation soon.
May I say thanks to all who have supported me and to thank those that
will continue through the next phase (3 more months to get below 90kgs)
for which a number of supporters have sponsored me on a £ per KG or
a target to get to.

Progress was good this last 2 weeks - ok it was really the last week!  Focused hard on the diet as well as exercise (squash Thursday, spinning Friday and squash that evening and so a few kilos lost!).  I have achieved the personal goal of getting below 100kgs and now see if I can continue into the last 2 weeks before the competition closes.
Some may be aware that I will be continuing for the next 3 months (and some have sponsored for that period as well) to encourage me to maintain the weight loss at a more gradual and sustainable rate (and avoid the weight bounce-back).  The next target is to get close to 90kgs by end June.
Thanks once again to all supporters

We have all hit a buffer - and I think only 1 out of the "14 Fat Bankers" has actually lost weight in the last 2 weeks.  I kept mine at 102kgs (and just bordering on 101.5kgs) - having  an excuse (I had my 50th birthday last weekend and so a little champagne and something nice to eat was in order).  This week I am re-invigorated to continue the downward trend with the diet as the re-focus as well as sport (I will join a gym today and make myself go twice a week for the next 8 weeks in order to get the cheaper rates!
So please do continue support - thanks very much everyone.

29 February 2008
I went to our local doctor's surgery and was weighed by the nurse - a good independent person for a mid-term weight check.  And I am down 2.5kg and up some £300 in donations.  I have just passed the £1,000 mark and DKIB have kindly agreed to match £1,000.  May I yet again thank all who have donated so kindly as well as the support for the diet.  I am beginning to struggle, so please do encourage me to keep slimming as and when you can!  Target is to be below 100kgs by mid-April when the competition ends.  Thanks once again all.

Good progress on all fronts.  The support is fantastic - on both verbal and email support as well as so many people that I approach are very kind in their generosity on sponsorship.
My weight continues to go down - another 3.5kgs off in 2 weeks.  As mentioned in my previous note, it is more challenging now, however exercise and monitoring carefully what I eat is paying off.
My final note is to say thanks everyone and please do keep asking and providing verbal support over the next 8 weeks

Although the last 2 weeks have been challenging for me, the support I am getting from everyone has been absolutely brilliant and really motivated me.  I have been to a number of people for sponsorship (thanks very much indeed with over £450 to date) as well as words of encouragement, advice (and the advice has been great and consistent rather than masses and masses of suggestions) and team work from those who have helped me to go to the gym for exercise and squash.....  Very much appreciated.
Still some 10 weeks to go knowing that the early drop is unlikely to be as large as the 4kg lost (aiming for a minimum of 3kg per 2 weeks) - my weight target by 3 months being below 100kg (10% of weight loss).

Thank you everyone to date for your support
