Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A team of 6 cyclists from the Defence Academy, Shrivenham, are cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats between the 5th and 8th July 2010 to raise awareness and money for Help For Heroes, DebRA, The Linda McCartney Centre and to help towards the purchase of a powerchair for Swindon resident and cerebral palsy sufferer Dale Welland.

SSgt Lee Brown, WO1 Ian Harrod, WO2 Lee Swain, and WO2 Trevor Boyd, together with Defence Academy Lecturer  Ian Owens and Serco Librarian Aaron Cripps are hoping to cover the 889 miles in continuous relay. Riding in pairs, team members will take turns to complete three hours on the bike in a non-stop dash from England’s most Westerly mainland point to Scotland’s most Northerly mainland settlement. The team hopes to average 13 mph and complete the distance in around 68 hrs of continuous cycling.

Help for Heroes, DebRA, and the Linda McCartney Centre carry out invaluable work for people who deserve all the help we can offer and the team hopes to raise £10,000 towards these worthy causes.  Learn more about these fantastic charities and the work they do by clicking on the ‘Our Charities’ link at our website: www.ride4heroes.webs.com

If you’d like to back the team and help us raise as much money as possible for the charities please donate using this JustGiving site, remembering to select the Gift Aid option if you’re a UK tax payer.

You can keep up to date with our training and event progress via www.ride4heroes.webs.com which will be updated regularly.

We have now completed the ride and did the 930 miles in just 60 hours (two and a half days) of continuous team riding, well under our planned time.  Many thanks to all that have supported us and if you are still to donate this page will remain active for a while yet.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
