On 14th June I set off on a 934-mile bike ride, with three friends Adam, Steve and Chris, from Lands End to John O'Groats, which eventually took us 12 days to complete. In the process I was raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), in memory of my fiancée Jane Starr, who died suddenly on 17th May 2006, aged just 33.

Jane's cause of death was confirmed as the rare heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Every week in the UK eight apparently fit and healthy young people like Jane die from undiagnosed heart conditions, and CRY are committed to reducing these losses in future.
