Why am I doing this?

So, you know how it goes, 4 middle aged blokes in the pub bemoaning the fact they are all unfit.

After 5 pints of John Smiths someone suggests we should get fit by riding our bikes - we all rode bikes 30 years ago right?

Ok I agree-  let's do that. Except I haven't got a bike and my knees are shot!!!

So I buy a bike, but couldn't get any new knees - and I thought e-bay was supposed to be good for that sort of thing.

After a few weeks of riding the bike  - for about 2 or 3 miles at a time -  I think I'm Lance Armstrong.

We're in the pub (again), we've had 6 pints of JS and someone says, "we should do the coast to Coast".

Great idea we all slur - "let'sh do that".

Right - if I'm going to do this, then I'm going to do it for a good reason - not just for macho pride and a mid-life crisis.

So many of us have been affected by Cancer.

I have recently  lost extended family members to this horrible disease, so I thought I could do my bit to help the fight to beat it.

 

The coast to Coast then...

Approx 150 odd miles from Whitehaven to Tynemouth (West coast to East Coast).

We will tackle it over 3 days...4th. to 6th. September.

Day 1 - 60 miles - Whitehaven to Penrith.

Day 2 - 55 miles - Penrtith to Nenthead - over the Pennines via Hartside Pass - come on, it's hard enough in the car!!!

Day 3 - 55 miles- Nenthead to Tynemouth.

On each of the night's we stay over we are taking our guitars with us, and we will be "busking" in any pub that will let us, and hopefully make a bit more cash that way - yeah, they will pay us to stop!!!

There are now 11 of us doing it and we have a Van, and a Van Driver coming along to support us.

You guessed it, that's where I might end up after day 1 - hopefully not.
