Story
Hello there old friend!
This August I will be doing 3 olympic distance triathlons on 3 consecutive weekends starting with the London Tri on the 8th. This will be followed by the Bedford Triathlon, and then Allerthorpe on the final weekend.
For those of you that are unschooled on the specifics of an olympic distance triathlon, it goes a bit like this:
1. Swim 1.5km (just under a mile), trying not to swallow water from the dock, get clobbered by other swimmers, lose your goggles, or get lost and end up in the Thames
2. Try to get out of your wetsuit as quickly as possible (this will be where most of my energy is expended)
3. Cycle for 40 bum-numbing km (25 miles). I've been eating Bran Flakes which have Chris Hoy on the front - I should be fine on this leg
4. Waddle off your bike, change your shoes, and complete a 10km run (6 miles)
5. Go to the pub for an intensive rehydration program.
I've been training pretty much every day since Easter, which has been hard, frustrating, difficult, fun, exciting, rewarding, and generally awesome all at the same time.
Because I'm punishing myself not once, twice, but thrice in a row, I'm hoping you'll be able to help me to raise a good sum of cash for Save the Children. My target is £600, which will contribute to the charity's target of £17,000 for all of their athletes taking part. With this money they will be able to pay for:
- The training of 25 facility health workers in essential newborn care in Mozambique,
- The construction of a basic health centre in Brazil,
- The building of a school library in Pakistan AND
- The construction of one spring to serve about 500 people with fresh water in Ethiopia
Sounds like a bargain, eh? So I'd be grateful if you could dig deep. Thanks in advance!
