Story

Thank you for taking the time to look at my ‘JustGiving’ page!

I’m Robert Leigh and I’m the Golf Administrator & Steward at Henley Golf Club, Henley-on-Thames. I’ve been at Henley Golf Club in some capacity for nearly ten years now, and at the age of 25 I’m lucky enough to have built up a certain rapport with the Members.

Some of you may not know, but I am a big Everton Fan; and after they got knocked out of the FA Cup in their first match (the third round) I took the usual abuse & banter that goes with being a fan of a ‘less-popular’ team. During the toing & froing one of our more colourful Members Reece Pigden joked

Reading FC are on their way to Wem-ber-ley!!

Needless to say I didn’t agree! I brushed off the comment;

“Reece, if Reading get to Wembley, I’ll walk there!”

Well here we are two months later and having beaten Bradford, they are now on their way to Wembley...

One of our Members at Henley Golf Club is Peter Phillips, and unfortunately a few years ago Peter was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Peter is at the core of our golf club, not to mention one of Reece’s oldest and best friends. Which is why when I realised I’d be walking there was only one charity to walk for.

I plan to raise £5,000 for motor neurone disease during this walk.

The distance from Wembley to Henley Golf Club is just over 30 miles. I’m going to do the walk on the day of the semi-final, and advice has been such that it’s better for me to walk back to Henley rather than finish at Wembley Stadium on the day of the match. I will be starting at Wembley Stadium at 3.00am and plan to hit Henley bridge by 4.30pm, where I will meet well-wishers in The Angel pub for them to join me for the last couple of miles. I welcome anyone who wishes to join me at any point of the walk, especially from The Angel.

If you would like to donate please do so either via Henley Golf Club where there is a list in the Clubhouse, or via this JustGiving page, and after the walk is completed I’ll collect all donations and present a cheque to the MND Associations Oxfordshire branch with Peter Phillips.

I thank you all in advance for giving so generously for a charity that is so close to our hearts at Henley Golf Club.
