Rory Terence Cross was born in January 2022 with an extremely rare genetic condition called Chitayat Syndrome (1 of 13 confirmed cases in the world) which primarily affects his ability to breathe.

In March, Rory went into respiratory failure. He was put into an induced coma and admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital. It was the scariest time of our life.

When a child suddenly becomes ill, there's no time to plan. The Sick Children's Trust is the charity that gives families one less thing to worry about by giving them a place to stay, and someone to talk to, free of charge just minutes from their child's bedside.

Me and Kirsty stayed at Acorn House, situated in the grounds of Addenbrooke's, for 7 nights whilst our baby boy fought for his life. Without the support of The Sick Children's Trust we would have needed to find a hotel or stay 40 miles away at home. Instead they gave us a 'home from home' and somewhere we could rest, safe in the knowledge we could be with Rory in minutes if needed. 

I am very lucky to be running the London Marathon for a charity that will always hold a special place in our hearts. It costs The Sick Children's Trust £40 to support a family for one night. Any donation will help give a family like us somewhere to stay during the toughest and most unthinkable times.
